When Meeting in Person

Meet in a safe, well-lit public place — a busy market, bank lobby, or police station carpark. Avoid private addresses for a first meeting.

Ask a friend or family member to come along, especially for high-value items. There's safety in numbers.

Tell someone where you're going
Share the meeting location and the seller's contact details with a trusted person before you leave.

Inspect before you pay
Check the item carefully in person. Make sure it matches the listing photos and description before handing over any money.

Never send advance payments
Avoid sending money to a seller you haven't met or verified. Legitimate sellers don't require upfront bank transfers before viewing.

Use cash or secure methods
For in-person transactions, cash is safest. If using a payment app, confirm the recipient's details before sending.
Spotting Red Flags
Watch out for: prices that seem too good to be true · sellers who pressure you to pay immediately or off-platform · requests for gift cards, wire transfers, or unusual payment methods.
- Prices significantly below market value — if it looks too good, it usually is
- Sellers who won't meet in person or video-call to verify the item
- Requests to move the conversation off Kegalle Marketplace to a private number only
Reporting a Problem
If you encounter a suspicious listing or user, use the "Report Ad" option on the listing page, or contact us directly. We review every report promptly and take action within 24 hours.
